Notice that the message greeting uses a variable, (LEAD NAME). The variable ensures that each of Matt’s leads will receive a message personalized with his or her own name. Notice, also, that Matt’s name and address are at the end of the message.

Case Study: Downline Dan and the New Breed
Dan is one of Matt’s downline representatives. He’s ordered his own follow up autoresponder through Matt. Since Matt is using Auto Message Setup, Dan’s account came pre-packaged with Matt’s marketing messages. Dan personalized those messages to himself by answering a few questions in his Online Control Panel. Now Dan is sending his own personalized version of Matt’s messages to his customers! Notice that the contact name and address at the end of the e-mail are Dan’s, but that the greeting at the beginning of the message still includes the name of Dan’s lead.

In most cases it is straight forward who owns the copyright of copywriting, but freelance copywriting is a bit of a grey area.

Copyright is established when words, illustrations or images are put into tangible form. You don’t have to do anything it is automatic. Copyright law assigns the copyright to the author by default.

However, if you outsource your copywriting to copywriting services, freelance copywriters or ghost-writers it falls under work-for-hire and this is not as clear cut. Under the copyright law the work-for-hire section is used for industry and other organizations that employ people. If an employee would design a great software program then under the work-for-hire copyright law this program belongs to that company, not the employee.

Outsourcing therefore is a bit of a grey area. It depends on what is specified in the agreement between the parties. Spell it out explicitly in the agreement if you want to retain the copyright to the work provided, so that there is no come back at a later date. Make sure the agreement is signed and dated.

It’s time to find out exactly what you must do to PROTECT yourself and your business against scumbags who are looking to win the “lawsuit lottery” by filing frivolous claims against website owners they think have money!

We’re all familiar with the concept of ego searches - they’re a matter of seeing who’s writing about you, and how much they’re doing it. A sort of ego search relating to relating to your site and search engines could be equally useful.

The Indexed Pages tool can provide something along those lines - just enter a URL, and it’ll report the number of links found through Google, Yahoo, MSN, Alta Vista, and AlltheWeb. The tool is a great way to gauge the success of your online campaign.
