I stumbled upon an interesting keyword search result on Google that I like to share.

A very excited friend called me last week. “I’m #1 on Google” she said her voice full of excitement.  Just have a look!  I asked her for the keyword, did a Google search . . . guess what her site wasn’t there.

She couldn’t understand this and neither could I, because she had it in front of her.  I looked at the next page, and the next, and the next . . . nothing came up.

Two keyword searches at the same time on www.google.com and two different results for the same search. How is this possible?

Suddenly, the light bulb went on. I had just arrived back in Australia from an overseas trip.  I tried the same search on  www.google.com.au . . . and there was my friend’s site on top of Google.

When doing a Google search in different countries the search appears to come up with pages relating to that country. Thus being on the front page of Google may be only for the country you live in even on a general Google.com search.

If you hit the top on Google you can easily check if it’s only on the front page in the country you reside by adding a country code after google.com for your search.

This is not to dampen down your excitement, because being on the front page of Google even in your own country is a great result where all internet marketers are aiming for. Just be aware.
